How Quantity Can Increase Quality

Quality Over Time

Not every song I make is going to be good. But I do my best to start then finish it. Because I believe over time, the more songs I make, the better I will get at it. My songwriting skills get better, my production techniques get better and I find interesting things that make my sound unique from anyone else. The quantity of songs produced increased the quality over time.

Move Forward

I’ve seen bands work on the same 4-5 songs for years and continue to fine tune them, rehearse them, re record them over and over and end up never release them. The songs become too precious and they keep wanting to change things instead of moving forward.

Practice

To each their own I always say but I believe it’s worth thinking about creating as many songs as possible. You don’t have to release them all but it’s worth the exercise of creation. Just like practicing your instrument, you get better and better over time.

Blocks

Working on one song over and over again can be disheartening because you never step away from it and eventually get blocked. Sometimes time and space is needed until you’re ready to work on that song again. But in the mean time you can start on a new song and have a fresh new take you wouldn’t have gotten if you’re stuck on the same one song.

Conclusion

The Quality will get better the more you do the thing whether it’s writing a song or practicing the instrument. So don’t think it’s quantity vs. quality but that the quantity over time will increase the quality. We all start somewhere but can envision where we want to be. To realize those visions, I believe in continually creating songs and improving your skills in song writing, production etc. will lead to quality releases.
